Education and Experience

I studied architecture at the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture in Aberdeen, where I particularly enjoyed developing my own projects and using hand drawing and model-making to explore and communicate architectural ideas. In my final year, my thesis received national recognition when I was selected as a finalist for the RIAS Award for Best Scottish Student.

Between completing my bachelor’s and master’s degrees, I spent a year at a large commercial architectural practice in London, gaining experience in high-end residential development. I then joined a small practice in St Andrews, Fife, working primarily with private residential clients on renovations, extensions and new-build homes. I particularly enjoyed working directly with clients, developing their ideas and helping to turn them into reality.

I most recently worked at a practice in Kinross, focusing mainly on early-stage feasibility and planning applications for larger housing developments. This broadened my experience of working collaboratively with housebuilders, wider consultant and design teams, while completing the professional qualification process to become a registered architect.

About Me

I am Stuart Campbell, an architect and woodworker with a passion for craft, sustainability and designing for everyday life. Based in Cupar, Fife, Neuk Architecture offers thoughtful and practical design solutions that consider both their immediate surroundings and wider environmental impact.

Working directly with each client allows me to provide a personal and responsive service, taking the time to listen carefully and together establish a clear, realistic brief. Every project receives the time, care and attention it deserves, from the earliest ideas through to design development, approvals and construction.

Since completing my master’s in architecture in 2019, I have worked on projects in Scotland and elsewhere in the UK. Much of my experience has been gained through projects across the East Neuk of Fife and in a range of rural locations, where new developments often require a particularly sensitive response to its landscape, architectural character and historic context.

My work has primarily focused on residential design, ranging from small alterations and extensions to listed buildings, bespoke new-build houses and multi-million-pound housing developments. During this time, I also completed a number of projects independently, securing the necessary consents for work involving listed buildings and properties within conservation areas.
